There are many more besides though too, which we will delve into here… The Ability to Sell Physical Products Working as an affiliate marketer will often mean that you have to sell digital products in order to get the big profit margins. While it’s true that you can get 75% and upward from affiliate networks like JVZoo, this will normally mean that you’re limited to selling ebooks and online courses. This can be an effective way to run a business model but it is also sometimes quite restricting. While digital products have many advantages, their appeal is not as broad as it is for physical products. For example, if you try and sell a digital product to your grandma, you’ll probably have difficulty. The same probably goes for your Mum. And most likely your Dad. And it also goes for most of your peers in reality! In fact, the main kind of person willing to spend lots of money on an ebook or online course is going to be someone who is already quite familiar with technology. The person most likely to buy from you of all is probably other digital marketers looking for more ways to make money online. And as you’re probably aware, these are a savvy bunch who aren’t easily going to have the wool pulled over their eyes! That, and they’ve already had people online try to sell them just about every digital product in existence. How many times have you seen ads on Facebook for ‘make money at home’ schemes? It’s just a very crowded market with a limited potential audience. Clothes on the other hand are something you can sell to anyone! And then there’s all the rest: stuff like technology, toys or fitness supplements. Suddenly, you can sell things that average people really need and that makes a massive difference! Flexibility Another benefit of selling physical products is the huge amount of flexibility it gives you. We’ve already seen that you’ll have a lot more flexibility in terms of the types of things you can sell but of course this will also extend to drastically increase your flexibility in terms of the way you sell. For starters, you suddenly have pretty much limitless niches that you can choose from (industries) and then there are the many different ways of selling those areas. Because right now, if you’re the ‘internet marketing type’, then you’re probably imagining the ways that you can sell products from your website or your mailing list. You’re probably thinking about content marketing, establishing your authority in your subject area… etc. etc. But that’s not the only way you can make money from a dropshipping business. Did you know for example, that many of the products being sold on eBay are actually being dropshipped? This means that you can save yourself the trouble of building an audience and creating a website – just find a product you like, create a listing and you’re good to go! Even big companies like Home Depot and Sears reportedly use dropshipping on some of their less popular products – so you know it must be a good model! With dropshipping you also have total control over the way you sell the product. That means it’s up to you if you want to introduce a limited time discount, or if you want to bundle multiple items together in order to offer special deals etc. This can all help you to make a lot more sales and it’s not an option you would have available to you if you were acting as an affiliate. In that scenario, the product owner would set the price and you would have no option other than to go along with it. Reduced Risk We’ve already seen that you can reduce the risk by dropshipping. There’s less risk than reselling here but also far less risk than selling your own product. That’s because creating your own product would involve the lengthy and stressful process of designing the product specifications, working with factories and then spending lots of money on materials etc. None of this is to say it’s not possible – it’s just a huge amount of risk! With dropshipping, you don’t have any of this risk because you’re not spending upfront investment. You simply find the product you want to sell and then promote it! But there’s another way that you can reduce risk with dropshipping too – which is by picking a product that’s already highly popular! By finding products that you know are already selling very well and that are very in-vogue, you can completely minimize the possibility that your product won’t sell. Now you’re selling products that sell in droves – you just need to find the people that are buying and make it easy for them! Branding – How to Run Your Dropshipping Business and Strengthen Your Brand Perhaps the biggest advantage of the dropshipping business model though, is one that many people don’t even consider. As mentioned, dropshipping has the benefit of allowing you to keep the actual manufacturer/fulfilment company as a silent partner. They will send out the products on your behalf but as far as the customer is aware, they bought it directly from you. This has the massive benefit of meaning that you’re not sending visitors away from your website. This is a massive deal as a digital marketer. If you’ve been working in this business a while, then you should have a good idea of just how hard it is to attract customers to your website and your business. This is what you’ll spend most of your time doing working online and you’ll probably find it takes up much of your effort. If you’re an affiliate marketer, then you’re bringing those visitors to your website so that you can sell products that other companies created. This then means that when they buy those products, they have to leave your website and thereby disengage with your brand. Which brand are they more likely to remember and visit in future? The guy who recommended the product to them? Or the company that actually sold it to them? And when they want more of the same thing, where are they going to go in future? And now consider this: how can they buy more products from you during the same session, if you are actively sending them away from your site? Instead of being able to offer a smorgasbord of products that you handpicked, you’re now simply telling them to go somewhere else to buy one item. With a dropshipping business you no longer have this problem. Now you can offer all the items you have for sale on your website from one spot and let your customers choose as many as they want and then continue to buy from you! But that’s not even the best part… White Label Dropshipping The best part is that in some cases, the products you sell will even be able to have your company name on them. This is called ‘white label’ dropshipping, with the white label essentially describing the packaging or the branding. Let’s say you want to sell a supplement like creatine from your fitness website. With a white label service, the product will be developed with packaging that literally consists of a pot and a white label attached. That white label can then have your branding printed right on it, meaning that to all extents and purposes this is now your own product. In many cases, you can even choose the ‘blend’ of ingredients that go into the product. In other words, if you’re selling a supplement like a vitamin tablet, you can select all the vitamins and minerals yourself and then add your own logo. If you don’t sell a single item, then you have lost nothing. But if you sell lots, then you’ll be making a profit at the same time as building your own brand and your own market presence. Chapter 3: The Challenge of Dropshipping – Finding Partners The big challenge when it comes to dropshipping though, is finding a dropshipper! This is very clearly a business model that has more benefits for the marketer and so of course not everyone is going to be eager to offer their services. How do you go about finding a dropshipper when they’re in such short supply? There are a number of options. But with any digital business, we tend to prefer keeping things simple and cheap. In this case, the best place for you to start is by looking at websites that act as directories for dropshippers, wholesalers and manufacturers. One great site that will do this is Alibaba (www.alibaba.com). Another good one is World Wide Brands (www.worldwidebrands.com). The latter is probably preferable as this specifically features dropshipping companies and has a large number of advantages for dropshipping businesses. For example, you can use this site to make sure that you are dealing with the real wholesaler. What does that mean? It means that you can avoid making the mistake of signing up to sell products that someone else is dropshipping to you – and thereby scraping profit from. This is a common practice and one to be careful of when starting out. World Wide Brands is perfect if you plan on finding a dropshipping manufacturer quickly and selling their products on eBay or Amazon. The only product with this plan is that there’s a fairly hefty sign-up fee. Currently, it costs $249. Okay, so that’s not astronomical and this is a lifetime membership. But if you were attracted to dropshipping initially because you wanted a business model with zero overhead, then it might be a little off-putting. Especially as your breakeven point has now been pushed back rather.

To recap, this allows you to build more excitement and buzz around your product, ensuring that the people who visit your website regularly don’t miss the fact that you’ve launched your product and making it seem that much more important and exciting to them. The simple fact that someone has to wait for a product is enough to ensure that it is going to seem more important, more exciting and more newsworthy. The fact that you’re dedicating so much time to it, demonstrates that this isn’t just another boring ebook or course that you created as a second thought. It becomes an exciting event and that means that people are instantly going to want to get involved. More to the point, this gives your product more time to become desirable in the minds of your audience. As soon as your audience can’t have the product that you’re promoting, you’re going to find that they want it considerably more. As soon as your audience is made to wait, they’re going to build up the product in their minds and make it seem a thousand times more exciting. If you time this just right, then you’ll have built your audience up to a fever pitch by the time your product actually becomes available. With this launch, you can ensure that the moment your product goes live, it will enjoy a sudden and very powerful influx of orders. The excitement of your launch and build-up will even help to color the impressions that your audience have of the product – it will seem ten times better simply because your audience was so excited about it before they got their hands on it! And that initial surge is going to help sales going forward too. That initial surge will be enough to get people talking about your product – you can expect reviews to start popping up and discussions in forums. What’s more, is that depending on your distribution platform, that initial surge can help to get you more prominence. For instance, if you have a strong launch on Amazon, then it’s going to take your product to the top of the search results for that niche, helping you to gain even more sales. And this will be helped strongly by a sudden injection of strong reviews. Meanwhile, if you are promoting your product through an affiliate network like JVZoo or ClickBank (where you can find marketers to help you sell your books), then you’re going to find that the great time:sales ratio will help you attract even more marketers to your cause. It is absolutely no exaggeration to say that the way you handle your launch can make or break your chances of having a highly successful product on your hands. More Benefits of a Product Launch But there are more reasons that your product launch and the build-up to it are so important. For starters, creating a product launch gives you the opportunity to create a dialogue between yourself and the people you are selling to. This then means that you can ask them for feedback and ideas and thereby tailor the product for the exact audience that you’re selling it to. Think about it: this is a foolproof strategy as you are simply asking your buyers what they want and then creating that exact product! A great way to do this is by creating a beta test for your product. This lets people sign up to try out an unfinished version of your product and provide feedback. This has the benefit of not only allowing you to test out your concept and see if it is getting the desired result but also to build even more excitement for what you’re selling! It’s no coincidence that more and more platforms online are introducing beta tests as a common option for creators and buyers: such as the gaming platform ‘Steam’ and its ‘early access’ option. Likewise, you can also benefit from a product launch by inviting pre-orders. When you invite pre-orders you are not only improving your cashflow (this can even be used as a way to fund the creation of the project!) but also verifying your market. This means you’ll be able to test the reception for your product before you actually go live – thereby ensuring that you don’t spend years and years on a highly expensive product that only sells two units. If you’re collecting pre-orders and you’re allowing people to sign up, then you can potentially breakeven even before you have released your product. And this will be enough for you to consider putting in more features etc. In fact, you can even borrow from Kickstarter (something we’ll be looking at more in a moment) and introduce ‘stretch goals’ and the like to encourage more sales still wherever possible. Then there’s the fact that a launch can instantly create authority for you, your brand and the product itself. As we mentioned, the perception is that only a very exciting and important product would have that much buzz around it – and especially if you have internet marketers involved so that it isn’t just you creating buzz for your own item. Finally, creating a big product launch is a great opportunity to run special offers, deals and other campaigns that can only further enhance your sales. It’s common to give discounts to people who preorder for example, but what about giving money off for the first few sales? This is a great way to create more urgency surrounding your product and thereby invite even more sales. Or about building even more excitement by giving people money off for referring a friend? Another option is to add extra features to your product or to alter the price if you can generate a certain number of likes for your Facebook page etc. Creating a launch isn’t just a way to go big on your product then, it’s also a great opportunity to introduce many other exciting strategies and to take full advantage of the excitement that you’re creating. Chapter 2: What to Launch? Types of Products That Lend Themselves to Building Buzz Now you know why it’s so important to have a big launch for your product, you’re probably eager to get out there and launch something! The next question then, is precisely what you’re going to launch. What types of products lend themselves to a big build-up? What type of products can become an event? The short answer to this question is: anything. You can sell digital products, physical products, informational products, services… pretty much anything and add a launch. This is the first takeaway to learn from this book in fact. If you are running a writing service or a web design service, then it can sometimes pay to change the way you think about that service and to approach it more as you might a product. This is sometimes referred to as ‘productizing’ a service. And in this case, you could think about the kind of new service-product you could launch. How about a ‘2 For 1’ package that will be coming in limited supply next month? Message your client list and this can potentially give them time to prepare their budget for some smart bulk-orders. Likewise, the more ambitious internet marketers can use a product launch as a way to sell a physical item. You’d be surprised just how easy it is to start selling physical products these days and you actually have many different options: whether you intend on selling a product that you had very little involvement in via a dropshipping company (essentially a company that lets you act as though it is your product but that handles manufacturing and fulfilment) or whether you actually want to create something from scratch by using a manufacturer and ordering a MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity).

Bounce Rate Your bounce rate tells you what proportion of your traffic lands on your site and then immediately leaves. This is a bounce and it basically means that although you have a visit, you aren’t engaging with that visitor and they aren’t stopping to read what you’ve created. This is a good example of why visits don’t tell the whole story. If you have 1,000 daily visits with a 99% bounce rate, then that means that only 10 people are actually sticking around to read your site! But bear in mind that a bounce rate still doesn’t tell the whole story. That’s because a bounce rate isn’t based on the amount of time they spend on your site but rather their interaction. So someone might bounce from your site after spending a while there – and this simply means that they didn’t click to read any of your other pages. So even if you have a bounce rate at about 60%, that doesn’t necessarily mean that visitors aren’t reading your site – they may be reading the page but simply not feeling the need to read further. If your ‘site’ is a one page sales script, then this won’t necessarily be a bad thing! A good bounce rate is generally thought to be anything from 26%-60% and you can consider anything under 30% to be very much in the ‘outstanding’ category. Being around 40% is very average and shouldn’t be a cause for concern. If you’re about 55%, then you’re getting into the higher portion but again, this is only a cause for concern depending on the type of site that you are Finally, if you have a bounce rate over 70%, then that is considered poor/disappointing regardless of the nature of your website or blog. As a general rule, your bounce rate is arguably more important than your visits because it tells you about engagement and what percentage of your traffic is likely to come back, is likely to buy from you and is likely to become a ‘fan’. A similar metric to this is your ‘average time on site’. This is similar to a bounce rate but can potentially be even more brutal, as it tells you how many of your visitors visited your site, spent a few seconds on your page and then left immediately! The average time on site metric is a very useful one for illustrating engagement too but as with bounce rates, it’s important not to get too worried if your metric doesn’t look good. The thing to remember is that 55% of visitors will spend fewer than 15 seconds on your website regardless of the content. You could write an entire article about why this is. Suffice to say that as a species, we humans are becoming more impulsive and more impatient. We always feel busy, we always feel rushed for time and we rarely feel that we have the time to stop and smell the roses – let alone stop and read a website that we find generally interesting! How to Shrink Your Bounce Rates The question you really need to be asking yourself, is how you can get your bounce rates lower and your time on site higher. There are many different factors that play a role here. One such factor is the design of your website and as in real life, first-impressions are incredibly important here! If someone visits your website and they feel that it isn’t particularly attractive or well designed, then this might be enough to cause them to immediately turn and leave! The colors you use can have a big influence here and it’s worth looking into things like color psychology. For instance, did you know that the color red tends to make people leave faster? Blue and other ‘cool colors’ meanwhile have a calming effect and lead to visitors spending longer on a page as a result. Another very important thing to look at with regards to your bounce rates is your page load times. Countless studies and reports confirm that this is a huge influencing factor that can be devastating for your site’s performance. If your visitors have to wait even a few seconds for your page to load, they will very often get bored and turn away. Make sure that you use as many speed optimization tricks as you possibly can to help your site appear as soon as the visitor has typed the address into their URL bar and hit ‘enter’. Reduce the number of large images, use AJAX scripts to change the order of loading elements and make sure that you’re on a good hosting package. Always avoid large blocks of text too. Remember what we just said: people are always in a hurry. They don’t have time to wait for your site to load but they also don’t have time to read through massive swathes of information. You can combat this issue by breaking up your text into smaller, more spread-out paragraphs and by using lots of headings. Ideally, your headings should contain a lot of the information in your site so that someone would be able to skim through your site only reading the headings and still get a complete picture of what it is you want to say. From there, the key is then to keep checking back to see how your changes are actually affecting your website. This is the entire point of using metrics in the first place – as now by checking back you’ll able to see which of your changes has helped and which has made no difference. Do more of the former and less of the latter! 3. Page Views and Average Page Views Per Visit Your page views is a metric that sites somewhere snuggly between your views and your hits. This basically tells you how many individual pages have been viewed, regardless of who viewed them or how many times. Thus it might also be referred to as impressions. Your page views are important in their own way because they tell you how many times the content on your site is being loaded up. And if you have a lot of CPM ads (pay cost per impression), then that tells you how much you’re going to earn from them. It’s also useful to consider aspects like your unique visits vs page views when you look at factors like conversion rates (below). This is useful because each new page view can be considered a new chance for you to impress your visitors. This metric is closely related to another very useful one: that being the average page views per visit. This is similar to your bounce rate but provides a little more in-depth data that shows you how many different pages your visitor looked around on your site. This is a very useful thing to know because it can tell you whether you are being successful in getting your visitors to not only interact with your site but also to keep reading. If you think of your visitors in terms of leads, then the visitors who read the most pages on your site are the most engaged with your brand and are thus the ‘warmest leads’. The more page views you get from each visitor, the more likely it is that they will eventually buy when they see your product. Another related metric/term that you should keep an eye on is your average cost per page view. This tells you how much you are paying to get each hit on your page. If you aren’t doing any paid marketing, then of course this will likely be a very small number (the only cost being your hosting). But if you are spending money on AdWords and other things, then this is a useful way to look at your expenses. Now this is a metric that won’t be readily available in most dashboards. But the thing to keep in mind is that most of the most valuable metric in internet marketing aren’t; you need to calculate them yourself! To work this one out, all you need to do is take the average spend on your website and then divide it by the number of page views. Don’t forget to include all your other costs too in order to make this data as accurate as possible. How to Increase Your Page Views How do you increase your page views? Other than by marketing your site to increase visits, the other thing you need to do is to keep your visitors on your page and to keep them reading. Remember how we said that content was the key to SEO and to social media marketing? Well, it’s also the key to engagement. This is why it’s not enough for you to simply create a lot of content – you also need to make sure that your content is top quality and is unique, interesting and generally the sort of thing people actually want to read and stick around for. You can also use plugins and other techniques to try and encourage people to stick around and go deeper down your rabbit hole. For example, WordPress plugins showing ‘related posts’ can be very helpful in this regard because they suggest similar content based on what the visitor is already enjoying. Another useful strategy is to make multi-part articles. This is why you will often see posts split into lots of pages: it increases the page views and thereby increases the impressions for adverts that you are earning from! Note that advertising itself is actually bad for your page views. Why? Because when someone clicks on an advert, they invariably get taken away from your site! Even if the new page opens up in another window or tab, that can still be enough to break the engagement. This is why you shouldn’t put AdSense on a sales page!

What should you expect from it? And how do you approach it without risking serious disappointment? Great Expectations The first thing to do is to have the right expectations. Too many people expect to get money for nothing and to make a huge profit from a website or blog for example after putting in only a small amount of work. What’s very important to understand here is that passive income does not mean that you are getting money for nothing. This is not a get-rich quick scheme and it does take a lot of work and a lot of smarts. Let’s take running a website as an example. While may creators seem to be under the impression that they can set up a website in a matter of a few days and start earning thousands of dollars from advertising, the reality is very different. Actually, the main form of advertising used to make money from a website is AdSense. AdSense is a form of PPC advertising, which stands for ‘Pay Per Click’, meaning in other words that you get paid each time someone clicks on one of your ads. If there are no clicks, you don’t get any money. And thus, it follows that you need to get as many visitors as possible to make any serious money. How many visitors? That depends on numerous factors including just how well you have optimized your ad placement and how good the niche you initially chose is. But what you can rest assured is that it’s going to require at least a couple hundred thousand. In fact, if you read around the web and do your research, you’ll likely find that the average advice is that it takes somewhere in the region of 150,000 views for your website to make $100. How long does it take to get to those kinds of numbers daily? I’d argue that it can take at least a couple of years for most people. And that’s only if you put in a huge amount of work to consistently flood your site with excellent quality content and to continuously promote your site and your brand in the meantime. The same goes for selling digital products. For creating an Amazon Kindle. Or for using any of the other passive income models we’re going to look at here. The Right Approach Why is this important enough to deserve it’s own chapter? Simple: because if you head into this expecting to make $100 a day immediately, you are going to be disappointed and you are probably going to quit out of frustration before you get anywhere. This is what happens to the vast majority of people. It’s also important because I don’t want any of you to run out right now and quit your day job! What you need to do, is scale back your expectations and make a steady attempt to increase your earnings and to build a business. Your aim is not to give up your day job. Not right away anyway! Rather, your aim is to make yourself some extra money on the side that will make your day-to-day life that much comfier and more enjoyable. It’s to fund your lifestyle and it’s to follow something you’re passionate about. To begin with, you’re not going to quit your day job or stop providing services online. Instead, you’re going to start devoting just a short amount of time in the evenings to creating content, creating a sales page, or following through with any of the other passive income models we’re outlining in this book. Choose something you’re passionate about and that you enjoy and do it for the love of creating. If you make a little money on the side, then you should consider that to be a bonus – not the main reason you’re getting started. If you do that, then in a few months you might start earning an extra $10 a week – enough to treat yourself to something nice at the end of the month. In time, that might climb to $20, $50 or $100 a week. And then you can start moving on to one of the other models in this book. Dedicate time at the end of your day whenever you can and don’t rush it. Slow and steady wins the race! Chapter 3: Top Passive Income Models for Selling Products One of the simplest and easiest ways to generate passive income is to sell a product online. This is a very simple business model: you simply create a website or a sales page, select a product, sell that product form your sales page and then direct traffic there. This could be an ebook, a pair of jeans or even a range of different products. The more traffic you can send to your site, the more you will sell. That means you can then start to invest more and more money, to increase and scale your business – or you can repeat the model with multiple different products. But Wait… How is Selling a Product Passive? You may be wondering at this point how exactly selling a product can be passive. Most of us are used to selling a product being a rather big upheaval. Normally, selling a product means first designing said product, then marketing it, ensuring it is being manufactured to a high enough standard, promoting the brand perhaps through a website and then sending out units to all your customers (fulfilment). It means an endless process of ordering stock, promoting that stock, packaging and delivering. Or at least that’s the traditional way of selling products. The good news is that these days, it’s much easier to sell a product than it ever has been before and you actually don’t even need to make your own product to do so.

Neurons are ‘brain cells’ and in a sense, they operate just like any other cells in your body. They have a cell membrane (the wall surrounding the cell), they have a soma (the body of the cell) filled with cytoplasm (fluid), they have mitochondria to provide energy and they have a nucleus containing your DNA. But brain cells also have a few ‘extras’. Specifically, brain cells have axons and dendrites. The axons are the long ‘tails’ of your brain cells which protrude from the back. The dendrites meanwhile are a lot like routes or tendrils that stretch out across the brain coming off of the soma. The job of the dendrites is to find the axons of other cells, where they can then form a connection. Neurons come in all shapes and sizes. While they are microscopic, they will sometimes have connections stretching all the way from one brain ‘regions’ to another to form connections. Brain cells don’t actually touch but instead leave a small gap called the ‘synaptic gap’ and communication then occurs across the gap. When a brain cell lights up or fires, this is called an ‘action potential’. During this point, a small electrical current jumps from the synaptic ‘knob’ over to one or several connecting dendrites. This is how signals find their way around the brain. Each time a neuron fires like this, it corresponds to some kind of subjective experience in the brain. For instance, one area of the brain – the occipital lobe – deals entirely with vision. When neurons in this region fire, it causes specs of light to appear like ‘pixels’ in the eyes of the viewer. Meanwhile, other neurons might make us remember a specific event, experience a smell, move a finger or fall asleep. Generally, neurons are arranged into groups which is what gives the brain distinct ‘regions’ for particular activity like this. At any time, you’ll have a certain amount of activity in different regions of the brain – the entire brain is never lit up simultaneously. This will likely correspond with what you’re thinking, what you’re seeing and what you’re feeling at any given time. And the connections mean that seeing one thing will often result in you remembering something else, or making the decision to do something. Note that neurons only fire at one ‘amount’. That is to say that there are no ‘degrees’ of firing – a cell is either firing or it is not. However, it might require input from numerous different surrounding neurons before it becomes excitable enough to light up itself. Neurotransmitters and Hormones But it is not just a current that jumps across the synaptic gap during communication between cells. At the end of each axon at the synaptic knob are tiny ‘sacks’ called ‘neurovesicles’. These contain neurotransmitters, which include the likes of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. Basically, a neurotransmitter will change the excitability of your brain, the likelihood of memories forming, your attention or your mood. For example, serotonin is the ‘feel good’ neurotransmitter. This means that it will normally be released when we see, think about or otherwise experience something that makes us happy. It’s also released during exercise and when our body detects sugar! Meanwhile, dopamine is a neurotransmitter that gets released when we think something is important. This then increases motivation, focus and the likelihood of a memory forming afterward. Neurotransmitters in this sense tell us what we should be feeling about the experience of certain neurons firing. In some cases, a hormone can act like a neurotransmitter and vice versa. For instance, testosterone has an effect on our brain cells, as does cortisol. More often, neurotransmitters simply make a cell more or less likely to fire an action potential, which results in them being categorized as either ‘excitatory’ or ‘inhibitory’. In order for neurotransmitters to have an effect on us, they need to interact with ‘receptors’ located on the dendrites of cells. In other words, a neuron might release serotonin from its vesicles when it fires but this will only have any impact on those connected neurons that contain serotonin receptors. Brain Plasticity Once upon a time, scientists believed that the brain would be set in stone after a particular age. In other words, it was thought that once we reached adulthood, the brain would no longer continue to grow or change shape. However, this has subsequently been found to be way off the mark. In reality, our brains continue to grow and change almost endlessly as we get older and this is how we are still able to formulate new memories and learn new subjects. New brain cells can form in numerous regions of the brain for instance via a process called ‘neurogenesis’. At the same time, new connections can also be formed and there is a simple rhyme to help you remember the rules here: ‘neurons that fire together, wire together’. In other words, if you repeatedly hear a particular sound while experiencing a particular smell, you will eventually get to the point where those two neurons form a connection. Over time, that connection will become stronger and stronger via a process called ‘myelination’. Essentially, the axons and dendrites involved in the connection become better insulated, which strengthens the circuitry and makes it easier for one neurons to cause the other to fire. This is how we can end up rote learning particular movements to the point where we no longer even need to think about them. One movement simply triggers the next movement automatically and almost without our conscious input. Understanding brain plasticity – also known as neuroplasticity – is one of the most important secrets to improving your brain function. This is the mechanism through which all learning occurs and thereby, it can be tapped into to gain a huge number of new abilities! 3 What Our Brain Was Designed For (And How We Are Using It) This basic primer has hopefully given you a good idea of how your brain works on a day-to-day basis and you’re probably already seeing ways that you can improve its function: by increasing the number of desirable neurotransmitters for example, or by forming new connections by repeatedly performing two actions together that you want to become associated. But what can also help a great degree is to understand what the brain was designed for and thereby why it is built the way it is. And this all comes down to evolutionary psychology… You Are an Adaptoid The most important thing to understand about your brain is that it is built for survival. And how do you survive? By adapting to your environment. Every single aspect of your brain function is tied to this basic principle and that means that a lot of the way your brain works can be predicted in different circumstances. At one point during the development of modern psychology, a field called ‘behaviorism’ reigned. What this school of thought basically told us, was that everything could be rote learned and that our entire subjective experience of the world was based on associations we formed through our interactions with the world. The most famous example of this principle in action was the study referred to as ‘Pavlolv’s Dogs’. In this study, Ivan Pavolv rang a bell every single time he fed dogs. Over time, he found that the dogs would develop a response to the sound of the bell – they would begin salivating even when there was no food present. This demonstrated that they learned through association and that the simple repetition was enough to form that association. Behaviorism says that everything we know is learned in this way. As babies we are largely ‘blank slates’ (though not entirely) and thus we learn how to interact with the world through association. For example, we learn that by reaching for things we will often be passed them. Thus we develop an understanding for the reaching gesture. When we touch fire, it causes a burning sensation, and the association that forms teaches us not to touch flames again. When we eat, it releases serotonin and we learn that we like eating. We come to associate the smell of cookies with Grandma’s house and we learn language by seeing how people react to different words. On a neural level, we now know that this is all to do with neural plasticity. Once again – what fires together, wires together. And when something is very important (like the fire), dopamine and other neurotransmitters are released to make that memory form even faster. Our environment is always changing and thus this is the best way for the brain to survive. By adapting to different environments, our brains ensure that the behaviors we acquire are perfectly suited to the environment we’re in. Ultimately, we learn to avoid danger and gravitate toward food, sex and shelter. Why is this so important to understand? Because we’re adapting to any situation we’re put in. That means that you’re still adapting right now to working in an office, being constantly stressed and looking at your phone a lot. The connections you’re not using are atrophying, while many unhealthy behaviors continue to strengthen with time. Enter: CBT and Embodied Cognition But while behaviorism did a fine job of explaining psychology for a long time, it was eventually found to be overly simplistic and unable to explain the full gamut of human experiences. For instance, most of us would agree that we can learn things by reading for example. How does this fit into the behaviorist model? And how can you become phobic of heights without ever having fallen from a height? CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) uses behaviorism as a starting point and then builds a cognitive element on top of that. This states that what we think also plays an important role – and that we can actually create new associations by thinking. In other words, if you think about falling, then this can create new neural connections as though you were falling – and that in turn can lead to the formation of a phobia, or to changes in personality. Hold that concept in your mind for a moment while we take a look at another concept: this one is called ‘embodied cognition’. Embodied cognition is a more recent psychology theory that says all of our understanding of the world around us comes from our bodies. This fits with the evolutionary explanation that our brains evolved to help us survive in our environment based on our interactions. The question that was posited to psychologists was this: when someone tells you some information, how do you understand that? You learned English growing up, yes, but what is it that allows you to understand English? Your brain doesn’t innately understand English, so you must be ‘translating’ that language into something like a machine code in order to process it. For a while, psychologists made up the term ‘mentalese’ in order to explain this gap. But later a more useful theory was put forward. Embodied cognition explained that we understand language by relating it back to our understanding of the world around us. When you hear someone telling you a story about walking through a cold forest, you understand that by imagining yourself walking through a cold forest and this causes all those relevant neural connections to fire as you think of the implications of that, relevant memories etc. And what’s actually happening here, is that the areas of your brain are firing as though that story was really happening to you. If you put someone under an MRI scanner while you tell them about the time you went swimming, their brain areas will light up as though they were going swimming. And this is how simply imagining something or picturing something can create associations in your brain. If you are high up and you keep imagining falling off that height, then your neurons will fire at the same time as though you were falling off that height. This is enough to cause those neurons to wire together and to create a strong connection – to the point where it’s hard not to picture falling off of that height. This causes a flood of neurotransmitters related to the experience of falling and what do you know – you pass out in a sweaty heap! CBT is a technique you can use to create more positive associations and connections in your brain and we’ll look more at how this works later on in the book.

You might not be looking at the kind of career you always imagined and you might be worried that people would question your choices. Perhaps the mission statement you’ve set for yourself is overly grandiose. Maybe it’s not grandiose enough! Maybe you’re worried people will laugh, or they will look down their noses at you. But this means you’re going about it the right way. Think about the most accomplished and successful people in the world. They were all revolutionaries. They were all people who were willing to challenge the status quo. And if you create a goal because you think it’s what you’re ‘supposed’ to want, then everything else we look at in this book will fall apart. The right goal and the right vision is going to motivate you from deep within. You’ll come alive when you talk about your passions and you’ll be filled with enthusiasm and charisma that will inspire others. True passion is what makes leaders. It is what makes people wake up at the crack of dawn to train. Becoming a lawyer to make your Mum happy and so that you’ll be richer than your neighbor does neither of those things. Be true to yourself and be honest. Oh and while we’re at it, keep in mind that you don’t have to come up with a goal that revolves around your career. It is just as legitimate to come up with a goal that is focussed on your free time. In fact, this is often a more successful way to come up with a mission statement and a goal. For example, if you’re someone who is interested in space, then why not take photos of space in your free time? Likewise, if you always wanted to be a rock star but upon writing your mission statement learned that you just want to share your music with the world, then why not create a YouTube channel where you share your music? You might eventually gain enough of a following to land a record deal but even if you don’t, at least you’re living the dream. Often our dreams are much easier to accomplish than we realize but we get in our own way by thinking about what we should be doing rather than what we really want to do. In many cases, the secret to achieving true success is to work less to create more time and space for you to focus on your passions. This is where ‘lifestyle design’ comes in – which we’ll look at later on in this book. Chapter 2: The Power of Visualizing Your Goals Visualization is something that can be somewhat controversial. Visualizing goals is one of the most common tips alongside ‘living your dreams’ but just like that statement, it’s a little over simplified. Because according to research, visualization can actually reduce your likelihood of success in some instances. The reason for this is that when we visualize a goal, it can actually be demotivating. This makes us feel as though we have already accomplished whatever it is we’re setting out to achieve and it allows us to rest on our laurels that much more. At the same time, visualizing can often be too abstract, too vague and too flaky to be of any real use. People who daydream about doing what they want – according to the science – often don’t actually make those goals a reality. But that’s not to say that visualization is useless. It’s just a matter of understanding how to use it as a tool and how to not allow it to take over. What is Visualization? And How it Helps With CBT and The Law of Attraction Perhaps a good way to start would be by looking at precisely what visualization is. We’re going to look at that here, as well as at how visualization can actually be combined with CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) techniques in order to achieve even more powerful effects. So visualization involves using your mind’s eye to picture the future you want to live. When you do this, what is actually happening, is that you are causing areas in your brain to fire as though you were really experiencing that thing. When you picture walking through the woods for example, areas relating to movement will fire, as will areas in your visual cortex (V1). Of course they fire less than if that thing were actually happening but on the whole, the experience is very similar. This therefore means that when you visualize something, your brain effectively thinks that it is already happening. And this is why visualization can be such a potent tool when it comes to confidence, to motivation and to sticking with a goal. CBT is a school of psychology that revolves around attempting to change our thought processes in order to help us accomplish more. It means looking at limiting beliefs (‘I’ve never been very good’), challenging them with the evidence and then replacing them for more positive statements (‘I have a powerful skillset’). This helps make us more motivated and more likely to achieve our goals. But we can likewise accomplish the same with visualization, only now we’ll be able to visualize specific goals and feel like they’re already happening. When you visualize being a billionaire, your brain will temporarily feel as though you are a billionaire. And if you believe this, even temporarily, then you’ll find your chances of actually becoming that thing increase thanks to the ‘law of attraction’. The law of attraction states that when we believe ourselves to be a certain way, we tend to become that thing because of the way it changes our presentation and our actions. When you believe that you’re an incredibly savvy businessman or woman, you start to be more confident in interviews, you take more positive risks in investments and you walk taller. You’ll even dress more professionally and people will sit up and take notice of that – which will ultimately lead to you being more likely to get the promotions and the responsibility you need to thrive. Visualize. Believe. And make it happen! More Practical Uses for Visualization The other practical use of visualization is in creating that mission statement. If you’ve had difficulty identifying the things that make you passionate, then try closing your eyes for a moment and visualizing your perfect future. Imagine yourself 10-20 years from now. Where do you want to be? Where do you live? What’s your house like? Do you have a family? What is your job? Some people will picture a quiet little cottage for them and their family. Some people will find themselves relaxing around a fire at Christmas playing boardgames with their children. Others will picture themselves travelling the world. Or they’ll see themselves in a professional looking suite, standing in a high rise building looking over the cityscape below. Whatever the case, it is easy for most of us to conjure up the possible ideal future that would make us happiest. And it’s from this abstract set of ideas that we can then go about creating more concrete goals and strategies. We can also draw on our memories for this. If you’re struggling to come up with a perfect future, then how about digging into your perfect past? What are your happiest memories? What were your proudest moments? By remembering this, you can identify the things that might make you happiest in future. Another way to use visualization is in ‘counterfactual simulation’. This means imagining possible futures and thinking about all the things that you can do to make them happen, or avoid them going wrong. This is also a great way to test-run ideas for your future. Thinking about being a rock star? Then take a moment to consider what that would actually mean. Visualize it and go through each step: is it really for you? You would be in the public eye, you’d be rich, you’d be constantly travelling, it would be harder to have a family, you’d have to perform in front of thousands, people would consider you highly successful… There’s good and bad there depending on who you are, so actually picture that future, run it through in your mind, think of every contingency… and then decide if you still think that it is right for you!

A successful lead generation engine is what keeps the funnel full of sales prospects while you sleep. Surprisingly, only 1 in 10 marketers feel their lead generation campaigns are effective. What gives? There can be a lot of moving parts in any lead generation campaign and often times it’s difficult to know which parts need fine tuning. In this video, we are going to touch on the lead generation methods. Email Advertising Email advertising, also known as email marketing, it is the simplest yet most effective way to generate leads. Research from Experian states that $1 invested in email marketing initiatives still yields roughly $44.25 return for marketers. This fact illuminates consumers’ familiarity and comfort with email, and additionally the universality of this marketing medium. In this post I would like to uncover some of the dos and don’ts of email marketing and some best practices to utilize for generating and nurturing new leads. Marketing automation software allows marketers to build out email marketing “tracks” from within the software. A marketing track is a collection of emails delivered over time for a specific type of buyer, or a distinct area of interest. Let me illustrate by way of example. If you were a marketing manager at an IT consulting firm you might build out marketing tracks for individuals like: the technical buyer, the financial buyer, and the end user. Additionally, you might build out marketing tracks for topics like, data security, scalable infrastructure, and system backup. As the marketer you're able to create and schedule these email in advance, allowing you to more efficiently craft cohesive communication that will be highly valuable to your audience. Then once your marketing tracks have been developed you can quickly and easily place people into these correspondence streams either manually or based on user behaviour triggers. This consistent and highly relevant email communication helps you build credibility and trust with leads. Additionally it keep your brand top-of-mind for when decision makers are ready to select a solution. When developing email marketing tracks geared at moving leads deeper into the sales funnel, there are a few design and copywriting elements that marketers should be mindful of. Below are a list of these tactics: 1. Subject Line: The subject line is how leads determine if they are going to read your email. So spend time on thinking about ways you can improve your subject line. Some ideas are: create subject lines that clearly address your leads business problems, personalize subject lines, and make subject lines actionable like: “attend our webinar” or “download our latest e-book”. 2. Brevity: Leads and prospects are bombarded with massive amounts of email every day. So keep your email concise and engaging. 3. Imagery: To quote a fellow inbound marketer Amanda Sibley, the brain comprehends images 60,000 times faster than text. So by using images that reinforce your copy you more quickly deliver your message to your intended audience. 4. Social Integration: As marketers we want our readers to be sharing our content with their network and the best way to facilitate this is by incorporating social media sharing links into your emails. Additionally, each recipient of the email will have their own favourite social network so give them options to share on Google+, Facebook, Twitter, or Linkedin. 5. CTA: To effectively move leads further into the sales funnel you need educate them on your product or service. The way to educate them is to have them consume your content: whether that content be: e-books, webinars, case studies, slide-shares or videos. So in your email you need to effectively advertise your CTA. Use action words like: attend, download, register, read, and try now. Give them a next step to take after reading your email, like registering for an upcoming webinar. Forum Prospecting As for forums prospecting, new customers represent the life blood of a vital, growing company. As competition for new customers increases in every market and customers themselves become more savvy buyers, successful sales organizations must take their prospecting game to a higher level. Playing the so-called “numbers game” (high-volume cold-calling) is no longer enough for increasing your yield of qualified prospects in today’s commercial markets. High-performing sales professionals now take a strategic approach to their prospecting activities, in order to generate a continuously flowing pipeline of qualified leads. Strategic Prospecting helps salespeople to increase their prospecting productivity—and especially increase their ratio of initial calls to qualified-customer meetings—by focusing the salespeople on offerings that their prospects find valuable and different. The program provides a framework for operating effectively in today’s hypercompetitive market, which is increasingly shaped by Web 2.0 social media tools. It also proposes a reliable prospecting method, and skills, tools, and tactics for generating and prioritizing qualified leads, engaging potential prospects, securing meetings, and handling prospects’ objections. Strategic Prospecting is designed for salespeople operating in a competitive selling environment and actively developing their territory. Participants should bring a solid understanding of their organization’s selling process and be able to move sales situations forward by consistently applying fundamental selling skills. Start A Facebook Group The biggest and most happening social media among us would definitely be Facebook. And so, generating leads with Facebook is quite an easy task as long as you know the right way to use. Start a Facebook group to for your existing Downlines and motivate them to bring their own Downlines in. You can have your group to be open so everyone will be able to see the content of your group. But, you need to know there are pros and cons about having an open Facebook group. WhatsApp Group Besides a Facebook group, a WhatsApp group is essential too. Of course it may not be as good as Facebook group in visual but, it is good when it comes to interaction. Having a WhatsApp group is like having a small forum on your phone. You can interact with your group member anytime anywhere as long as there is Internet connection. There is no boundary and easier excess compared to Facebook group where you used comment. Chapter 4: The Pros And Cons The basic structure of a network marketing business is similar to that of any established corporation, where you are your own boss and are solely responsible for your actions. These types of businesses are not only highly profitable but are also more exciting, as you will be able to reach out to an ever-increasing number of network participants coming from varied backgrounds and locations. You will not be alone in your initiatives, as all the network participants will strive together to achieve a common goal. The Pros In such businesses, there is no end to opportunities, as you can continue to earn profits as long as your network keeps growing. The network's growth mostly depends on personal recommendations and not on advertising or marketing. Your benefits will increase with an increase in the number of new members joining the network. Meaning that you will have your lasting passive income compared to income generated by affiliate marketing and one-time sales. Plus, with the Internet, you can join more than one Network Marketing company and not restrict yourself to just one. These types of businesses are preferred because they allow you to take risks without costing you thousands of dollars. You just have to try it once to find out whether it works for you or not. Even if you do not succeed, it will not affect your finances because just like the entry costs, the exit costs are also negligible. The best part of these businesses is that even after exiting the business, you will continue to receive residual income and the applicable tax benefits. The Cons Nothing is perfect. As for network marketing, you need to accept that you don’t truly own the business. You are a distributor regardless of your level within the company. Also, like every other business, it takes time to grow your downlines before you see geometric growth in your network and income. The start-up costs that you will be required to pay may be small, but are nevertheless necessary and you have to make it available at the time of starting the business. You need to decide well in advance the time you are willing to dedicate to your new business. These businesses are not like the typical 9 to 5 jobs and you may have to allocate a lot of time at the start for developing the desired network base. You need to conduct proper research for gathering information about available options such as the markets that can be targeted and the available networking channels. You also need to make available the necessary infrastructure such as computers and other communication devices. For most people, online MLM has a negative connotation to it. Despite so, direct selling remains one of the fastest growing industries. Network marketing business offers unlimited profitability and job satisfaction. If you have the passion to make it to the top without taking too many risks, then network marketing is probably the best option for you. The best thing is that, it is expected to grow even more popular by the years!

It isn’t just about setting up your mailing list and sitting back and have you noticed that there are various marketers and businesses that are so good at receiving new email subscribers that you can’t help but doubt how do they do it? While a lot of those marketers focus their efforts on very well-known list building strategies like content marketing and content automation, there is another safe and proficient way that can be used to capitalize on the number of your subscribers. That strategy is lead magnets. What is a lead magnet? Well, as the name implies, it is a figurative magnet for attracting leads, to get people to sign up for your mailing list, but its work is far from only doing that. They also have to convert those subscribers into customers! Alright, but what exactly is a lead magnet? A lead magnet is something that you use to attract prospects into a sign up form to get visitors on your mailing that will be strategically placed inside your website. This can be anything that you want to offer to your prospects in exchange for them giving you their email addresses, or in better terms, something so valuable to them that it would make them want to sign up for your newsletter just to get the item. How do lead magnets work? A straightforward example of a lead magnet would be something like a sneak peek of a sample of a paid product that can be sent directly to your email inbox, doing this will help your website get to new subscribers by offering them something that they can only get by receiving it through email. They didn’t have to openly ask prospects for their email addresses, but instead offered them something that they need, and the way to get it is by having it sent through email. This ends up giving it a sense of exclusivity, because subscribers will be getting something that is not offered on the site. The best way to explain why a lead magnet is so efficient is that it offers a solution to a problem. In this case, people are landing on this website because they need the company’s service, and the lead magnet offers them a sample of that same service in exchange for their email address! Preparing your lead magnet Now that you know what a lead magnet is and how to use it, the next step is how to start it. You start by setting up the element from where your lead magnets and opt-in forms will originate. It's likely that your email marketing platform of choice has a built-in functionality to set up sign-up forms, and you can always use alternative services to combine those into your website. You can have those lead magnets and sign-up forms publicized on your website in many different ways; in landing pages, lock on screens, light boxes and pop-up windows. Here are some examples of each one in action. After you’ve determined on how you want your lead magnet and sign-up form to be shown on screen, you have to decide what you are going to offer as a lead magnet, which is perhaps the most vital aspect of this process. Keep in mind that you cannot just use any random content or material to give away as your lead magnet, because that can have the opposite effect of converting prospects. You have to present a SOLUTION to a problem. After all, this is why your visitors came to your website in the first place. This solution can be anything related to what your visitors need from you and your website, so for getting at this solution you need to know your audience. Take for instance that you can’t propose a laptop catalog to your visitors if they’re coming after your “protein powder care made easy” program! This lead magnet can be anything of value to your customers. One of the most offered lead magnets around the web are eBook samples, free software registration for trial periods, limited access to a paid-subscription newsletter, and any free sample of what a website offers. You could produce your own materials, or pay someone to create material for you. There are lots of, many things that you can give away, but you have to bear in mind to have them focused on your product or service. Using our content as an exemplar, you can create an exclusive PDF guide and offer it to new visitors as a way to access insider information and tips that have been gathered from the numerous pages of posts on your site, so they can focus on checking new content! If you conduct webinars, you can provide free access to the ones that have been most popular in the community by signing up for your mailing list. They will be then sent a link to recover those recordings. For your blog posts, you can offer content upgrades of what visitors are reading, so make sure to customize these leads magnets for posts with details that can be extended in any way. Especially if it is a high traffic post! As you can see, there are various ways you can use lead magnets, and it is best you combine the materials that you are offering with the kind of sign up form that you’ll be using to offer them to get good results! Putting up the Lead Capture Page There are 3 diverse ways you can build your lead capture pages. Something important for you to know is that this page is known by several names. Three of the most used are: Lead Capture Page, Landing Page and Squeeze Page. WordPress Plugins There is an outstanding arsenal of landing page (lead capture, squeeze page or whatever you want to call it) plugins that you can use to effortlessly capture and even track your list building and email marketing activities. Some of them are paid, some of them are free, and some have different levels of memberships. You'll see an overwhelming list of high quality lead capture page builders you can use without having any coding knowledge. The “Free Landing Pages Builder by Wishpond” is a really amazing plugin. It doesn’t matter how simple it is, what matters most is how useful it is. If experienced marketers are using simple squeeze pages like this, don’t you think it would work awesome for you? There are all kinds of remarkable editing tools you can use, you can drag and drop sections and several types of content. HTML Templates If you are not fond of to having fun playing around with WordPress Plugins, you can always look for finished html templates which are ready for you to upload to your server and use. However, for this you might need to learn how to edit it. You can search for templates like that in Google.com. You'll be astonished by all the amazing choices you can find. Once you find something of interest, you'll want to upload it to your server. Once there, get into the editor and modify anything you desire, and you'll be able to see it instantaneously. You could also hire someone to do everything for you. Auto responder Popup Windows Within your email marketing service, you may have the capacity to add popup opt in forms to your site by just adding in a code. This is the case for AWeber. You can design it to look like a really pleasant looking lead capture page. You can add a header, resize it, change the submit button, and use the footer for adding some more stuff. It is best that if you change your form here in AWeber, you won't have to insert the code on your website again. Another a good thing with this type of lead capture popup is that it is also responsive, which means it works great on Mobile Devices. Setting up email automation Now comes a very significant part which is setting up email marketing automation, which is something known as the autoresponder. You can’t just upload your landing page and start sending traffic without connecting the opt in form into your autoresponder service. Setting up your autoresponder service First of all, you need to build a list in order to construct an email database. It is best that you produce a list for every topic you plan to construct an email database for. Take for instance, if you plan to build a muscle building related email database, you should create a list called Muscle Building Subscribers. Then, present the name of your company, company website, which address you would like to include at the bottom of your emails, and what sender name and email address should appear with your emails. Name your list and briefly describe the emails your subscribers are going to receive. This is the confirmation email your new subscribers will receive and will have to confirm after they submit their email, before they start receiving your emails. This is a good utility, because this is a method to make sure interested people are trying to get into your email list. You have the option of disabling this function, so your subscribers can get into your list right away and start receiving your emails. Firstly, you need to set up a welcome email, which will be the first email your subscribers will receive right after they submit their email via your sign up form and click on the confirmation email. There are several vital things you need to be alert of in this part. Depending on the method you use, there won’t be much designing to do on the sign up form, because that design is already created on the template you decide to use.

Once you settle on what posts are gaining high volumes of interaction and engagement you can repeat them. The key is to always be trying and noting the things that work best. You can read all sorts of information about what has worked for others, but you would really be missing the point of social media because in reality social media offers a personal way of communicating with your audience and what works for another business or blogger may not work for you and what works for your audience may not work for them. No matter how much insight you read about engaging your users, it will pale in comparison to the value of doing what you think is right for your readers, measuring how impactful it is and then adjusting your methods accordingly. What is the Purpose of Social Media? Majority of the people end up wasting a lot of energy on social media and they will try to drive their readers and consumers to their social media profiles, which is the opposite of what you want. The main goal of a social media profile is to drive people from them to your website or blog and not the other way around. Social media profiles should be used as outposts for attracting people to your website or blog. Your website or blog should not focus on sending individuals to the outposts. Social media profiles need to stand firmly on their own. Making Your Social Media Profiles As stated before, and as will be discussed in further detail in later chapters, the best way to build your social media profile is to develop compelling content on a regular basis. However, this is not going to build an audience. If no one is reading the content that you write then no one is going to be sharing them. To get the best leverage through social media you will need to get to the point where the number of followers that you have is sufficient to provide you with development through sharing. That being said getting to this point is easier said than done. Directing people from your email list to your social media sites is vital. Nevertheless, if you are not getting a large number of new email subscribers every day, this is not going to help you gain more than a few new fans and followers. If you have had an email list for quite a while, take the time to ask existing subscribers to join you on your social media sites. Beyond this you will need to tap into the current social media networks in order to get new subscribers and followers. Benefits of Social Media You may be a bit hesitant of getting into social media for your business. That’s understandable. Anything new and different can be a bit frightening. It is a technological world, however, and if you want to keep up with the times, you need to begin using social media networking for your business. If you are deciding whether or not to do it, you should look at a few of the benefits you would get from using social media marketing that you may not have considered. Here are a few of the benefit. 1. Brand-Building Tool This is a powerful way to use social media. Brand recognition allows you to use social media to determine how you want your company to be positioned, and what you tell people about what your business does. You can build a good brand reputation if you use a little effort and have great content which shows your company’s benefits, advantages, and values. 2. Cultivating a Community Social media is all about relationships, and it is a great way for your business to cultivate a community. You obtain instant access to your followers who become members of your community. Through social media, you can find out what they like about what your company has to offer, and what they don’t like. You can also find out what it is that your customers need. This communication with your customers can be more valuable than market research you would spend a lot of money for. 3. Exposure It has been said that before a customer decides to buy from you, they need to be exposed to you six to eight times. Through social media, you can get a lot of repeat exposure. You can shorten your sales cycle by being able to let the customer know over and over what your company has to offer them. Each time you do, you’ll be increasing your exposure. Not only that, but they may decide to share the information with their friends. If they do, then the exposure could increase by double, triple, or even more 4. Establishing Authority If you want to establish that you are an authority in any given area or on any subject, social media can be a great way to help you do it. It works well if you are a coach, consultant, author, speaker, and other service-based business. Through social media networking, you can let your audience know that you are the “go-to” resource for whatever it is you’re offering. You can build a strong fan base. People will know to come to you if you have good content, answer questions, and give your audience what they need. 5. Growth of Influence Your influence will grow as the number of your followers you get on your social media sites grows. You can attract new customers, have media interview you, and create Joint Venture partnerships, etc. if you have a substantial social media audience. Think about how people are when they see an accident on the side of the road. It’s the same way when you see a fire. The crowd seems to be drawn to it and gathers around it. It’s the same affect you can have on your social media sites. When you begin to build a big audience, people will want to see what’s going on. They’ll be drawn to your pages, and get to know you and your business. If they like what they see, they’ll return again and again. When they’re looking for what you offer, chances are, they’ll get it from you. 6. Traffic Generator Social media can increase your traffic to your website. Social media consists of sharing information. You give visitors a reason to want to visit your site when you share things such as: blogs posts, videos, or other content. When you get them to your site, you have a chance to make them want to take action such as join your mailing list, buying something you have to offer, retain you for their services, etc. It won’t happen overnight, but you will be able to see that social media generates traffic if you commit yourself to your efforts. Once the traffic gets to your site, you can convert that traffic into business if you give them a clear call to action. 7. Competitive Advantage Not every business takes the advantages of social media seriously. A lot of companies think social media is a fad, and it will go away. Because they feel this way, their pages aren’t updated regularly and they don’t acknowledge comments or answer messages. If you do take it seriously and put forth the effort if your competitors aren’t doing a good job, this gives you an advantage and a chance to stand out. If, on the other hand, you don’t participate in social media, you’re giving that advantage to your competitor who does. As you can see, social media can make things happen for you and your business. If you’re hesitant at all, remember it is well worth the time, effort, and cost your business puts forth on the social media sites. Without further ado, here are the steps you need to take in order to successfully use social media in your marketing. Chapter 2: Building Your FACEBOOK Page Some people think of social sites for young people to chat, but it’s much, much more. FACEBOOK can be a strong marketing tool and it reaches a world-wide audience. It’s also really easy even for beginners who may be “technologically challenged” to use.
