It’s An Undeniable Fact: Your website visitors believe that you will say anything about your products to get them to buy from you.
Everybody is skeptical when it comes to products and the benefits they claim to offer and who can blame them? You’d be hard pressed to find one sales letter without just a little hype in it.
Some of mine included. ;-) So why can I get away with it while you can claim your product is the greatest thing since air and still not make many sales if any?
Simply put...
You see those Big Blue Letters at the top of this page? That’s why. People believe that you will say anything about your product to make the sale. But, you can actually afford to use a little hype in your sales letters if you have plenty of testimonials to boost your credibility high enough.
Think about it.
How often do you believe things because a lot of other people say you should? More often than you’d like to think.
Having dozens of people (who are not you) saying that your product is worth having makes it easier for people to believe any perceived hype or unbelievable claims in your sales letters.
People think... “His headline and sales letter sound too good to be true, but with all the glowing testimonials this product has... What could it hurt to check it out?” Then of course you just make sure that there is a quality product behind the scenes to keep your once skeptical customers happy with their purchase.

Introduction
A national CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released on Thursday, March 20th, 2008 found that rising prices and declining home values have left Americans strapped for cash. Of the more than 1,000 American adults surveyed in the poll, 59% said they have cut back on clothing purchases, 75% have spent less on leisure activities, and 61% have postponed major purchases such as furniture or appliances.
Americans are feeling the pinch of the economic recession and are expected to drastically cut back on discretionary purchases over the next several months.
So what does that mean for those of us whose livelihoods depend on online sales to the American market? Are we doomed to see our sales fall and our income dry up?
Not if we change our marketing strategies to match these economic changes!
My name is David Canham and as a successful online and offline business owner, I’ve done extensive research into the consumer buying process. This manual discusses what a recession is and how we, as internet marketers, can protect ourselves and our businesses from this tough market.
It should go without saying that the opinions expressed in this book are mine alone, based on the research I’ve done on selling in a recession. My recommendations are not guaranteed to make you millions of dollars – they’re just what I believe to be the best course of action in a tough economy. As always, be a savvy reader – take what you can from this book and apply it in a way that makes sense for you and your business.
Chapter One: What Does “Recession” Really Mean?
What is a Recession?
The standard description of a recession is when a nation suffers two significant, uninterrupted quarters of waning gross domestic product. However, non-economists feel that a recession is a combination of lower interest rates, higher unemployment statistics and overall hard times – such as we are experiencing now.
Polls show that the majority of Americans believe we’re currently in a recession, even if we have yet to put the official title on it.
How Does A Recession Affect Consumer Buying Habits?
We’ll get into the consumer buying process in more detail later, but generally there are many reasons why people don’t purchase discretionary products and services during a recession. Perceived job security is one major fear. People are afraid that they won’t have jobs at the end of the month – so they hoard the money they do have in case of an emergency.
The current mortgage crisis and credit crunch are two other factors influencing consumer buying habits. Many people are finding themselves in over their heads due to rising interest rates, which effectively eliminate any kind of extra money for impulse purchases. Consumers are going further and further into credit card debt and they’re scared. People are starting to second guess purchases they would have originally made without a second thought.
How Long Will The Recession Last?
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to accurately predict how long the recession will last. It could take a few months for the economy to turn around or it could take years. Or – worst case scenario – the current recession could develop into a world-wide depression, devaluing currency around the world and possibly leading to a global shift in power.
While the doomsday scenario seems unlikely to me, I do believe we’re in for a bit of a wild ride. Even if America manages to clean up its mortgage and credit crises, there’s more trouble on the horizon. A recent study showed that Medicare and Social Security will both become financially insolvent within the next 30 years. Coupled with the beginning of the baby boom generation’s retirement – and their subsequent massive withdrawals from the stock market – I think we’ve got a ways to go.

INTRODUCTION
Women have long been considered the weaker sex, much to the protestations of feminists everywhere. Unfortunately, this stereotype exists even today in the 21st century. Perhaps that’s why violent crimes against women are at an all-time high.
All women live with a certain level of risk for crime. In fact, a 21-year-old woman today has a 1 in 4 chance of having a violent crime committed against her. These crimes range from the shocking such as rape to simply intrusive like car jacking or purse snatching.
What’s even scarier is that often, the crimes committed against women happen in their own homes by a loved one like a husband or boyfriend. What a horrible feeling to have to worry about your safety and well being in the place where you should feel safest.
The answer to combating crimes against women isn’t as difficult as you might think. All women can benefit from self-defense hints and tips. Some just don’t see the need at all. But one victim gives the following to think about when considering whether or not you need to know at least a few self-defense measures.

I.
As a Pastime.
According to the authorities, the central idea of a pastime is “that it is so positively agreeable that it lets time slip by unnoticed; as, to turn work into pastime.” And recreation is described as “that sort of play or agreeable occupation which refreshes the tired person, making him as good as new.”
Stamp collectors may fairly claim that their hobby serves the double purpose of a pastime and a recreation. As a pastime, it certainly makes time pass most agreeably; for the true student of the postal issues of the world, it turns work into a pastime. As a recreation, it is of such an engrossing character that it may be relied upon to afford the pleasant diversion from business worries that so many tired mental workers need nowadays.
For nearly half a century it has maintained unbroken its hold as one of the most popular of all forms of relaxation, and its popularity extends to all classes and to all countries.
But this very devotion of stamp collectors to their hobby has puzzled and excited the uninitiated. The ordinary individual, especially the man who has no soul for a hobby of any kind, regards it as a passing fancy, a harmless craze, a fashion that must have its day and disappear, sooner or later. But the passing fancy has endured for nearly half a century, the harmless craze still serves its useful purpose, and the fashion has acquired such a permanence as to convince most people that it has come to stay.
Of all pastimes, and of all the forms of recreation, not one can claim more lifelong devotees than this same stamp collecting. And where is another pastime with such international ramifications? In every civilized country, in every city, and in every town of any importance, the wide world over, thoughtful men and women are to be found formed into sociable groups, or societies, quietly and pleasantly enjoying themselves in the harmless and enduring pursuit of stamp collecting.

What Yoga can do
YOGA at last is coming into its own in the Western world. After many years of being dismissed as a bizarre cult attractive only to eccentrics, it is today recognized as a fundamental art and skill. More than that, many of its most bitter opponents, people who were among the first to cry down Yogic culture, have now embraced it as a way of life.
The ancients who formulated the science of Yoga were way ahead of us in our modern world of stress and hurry. Recognizing, thousands of years ago, man?s basic need for discipline to counteract the physical and spiritual deterioration caused by the mere fight for survival, they evolved a science which is at once as ancient as India herself and as modern as the space age.
The law of Yoga is the law of Life. Yoga embodies the secrets of successful living and combines profound and age-old truths with a way of life acceptable to the modern mind. It was evolved from the Veda, one of the most ancient scriptural books known to mankind in which Indian saints and sages taught that the Universe is one and that all religions are paths ascending the same mountain towards Eternal Truth. The great modern saint, Sri Ramakrishna, is often quoted as saying, „As many faiths, so many paths.
But Yoga is not a religion, nor is it a mystic cult. It is a Hindu system of philosophic meditation and asceticism designed to effect the reunion of the devotee?s soul with God. It is a philosophy which integrates the individual life and the world surrounding us to achieve a basic harmony and equilibrium in the heart and mind of man.
How is physical health a part of so spiritual a philosophy as Yoga? Simply that the trichotomy of our lives, divided into body, soul and spirit, is echoed in the complete Yogic philosophy whose three approaches—asana (posture), pranayama (breath control), and meditation—are unified as one approach to self discovery.
One of the fundamental doctrines of Yoga is that God is within each one of us but He reveals Himself only in conditions of purity, both spiritually and physically. To function on a higher level, either mentally or physically, the first step must always be to rid the body of the impurities that cause disease and which impede spiritual development. One can draw the analogy of the window which must be cleaned before one can see the light clearly through it.

Woodworking can be a fun and satisfying hobby, but it can also be quite frustrating. In a world filled with mass produced, poorly crafted pieces of furniture, it can be a thrill to produce a piece made with your own two hands. Take a few pieces of wood, some tools, and your imagination, and you can make beautiful pieces of furniture. The possibilities with carpentry are endless. Even the most inexperienced person can learn woodworking and turn out gorgeous pieces that can become heirlooms. Woodworking as a hobby is growing in popularity – especially among the female population. More and more women are taking a new interest in jig saws and power drills as they turn out accessories and furniture for their homes. The term “woodworking” literally refers to the process of building, making or carving something using wood. Kind of obvious, isn’t it? But there are all types of pieces that can be made using wood – not just furniture! You can make toys, toy boxes, or carved figurines. THE METALS
Iron.--Iron, in its pure state, is a soft, white, easily worked metal. It is the most important of all the metallic elements, and is, next to aluminum, the commonest metal found in the earth.
Mechanically speaking, we have three kinds of iron: wrought iron, cast iron and steel. Wrought iron is very nearly pure iron; cast iron contains carbon and silicon, also chemical impurities; and steel contains a definite proportion of carbon, but in smaller quantities than cast iron.
