INTRODUCTION
For some people, gardening is a passion. Some people garden just as a hobby. For still others, it’s a way to feed their families. We think Shirley MacClaine’s character in “Steel Magnolias” said it best. “Because that’s what Southern women do – we wear funny hats and grow things in the dirt.”
You don’t have to be from the South or be a woman, or even wear a funny hat to enjoy gardening. The thrill of seeing your first red, ripe tomato or watching your first stalk of corn reach from the ground can be an amazing experience for many people.
Gardening is also a great way to provide healthy food for you and your loved ones. When you buy produce from the store, it just isn’t the same as presenting a salad to your family that came exclusively from your garden worked by your own two hands.
Many people choose to garden so they can have control over what type of food they eat without fear of chemicals or preservatives. Often, commercially grown produce is cultivated in greenhouses with the use of pesticides and chemicals to enhance their growth.
A quick study on these types of artificial applications can be unnerving for anyone. The side effects of chemical pesticides on the human body can truly take its toll. So many people are jumping on the “organic bandwagon” as a way to minimize the risks to themselves and their loved ones that often comes with commercially prepared foods.
You don’t have to be a health nut to embrace organic gardening. Imagine the wonderful way you’ll feel knowing that you are serving foods that were grown all naturally without the risks that come from applying chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
It’s easier than you think. If you’ve been gardening for years or are just beginning to grow your own food, organic gardening can provide you with peace of mind and pride in your produce. Don’t have any clues how to start? That’s why you’re reading this book!

INTRODUCTION
BECAUSE of the rapid increase in knowledge about precious stones on the part of the buying public, it has become necessary for the gem merchant and his clerks and salesmen to know at least as much about the subject of gemology as their better informed customers are likely to know.
In many recent articles in trade papers, attention has been called to this need, and to the provision which Columbia University has made for a course in the study of gems. The action of the National Association of Goldsmiths of Great Britain in providing annual examinations in gemology, and in granting certificates and diplomas to those who successfully pass the examinations, has also been reported, and it has been suggested that some such[vi] course should be pursued by jewelers' associations in this country. The greatest difficulty in the way of such formal study among our jewelers and gem merchants is the lack of time for attendance on formal courses, which must necessarily be given at definite times and in definite places.
As a diamond salesman was heard to say recently: "The boss said he wanted me to take in that course at Columbia, but he didn't tell me how I was going to do it. Here I am a thousand miles from Columbia, and it was only six weeks ago that he was telling me I ought to take that course. I can't stay around New York all the time." Similarly those whose work keeps them in New York might object that their hours of employment prevented attendance on day courses, and that distance from the university and fatigue prevent attendance on night courses. The great mass of gem dealers in other cities must also be considered.[vii]
It will therefore be the endeavor of this book to provide guidance for those who really want to make themselves more efficient in the gem business, but who have felt that they needed something in the way of suggestion regarding what to attempt, and how to go about it.

GAMES FOR A PARTY
Blind Man's Buff
"Blind Man's Buff" is one of the best, oldest, and simplest of games. One player is blindfolded, is turned round two or three times to confuse his ideas as to his position in the room, and is then told to catch whom he can. If he catches some one, yet cannot tell who it is, he must go on again as blind man; but if he can tell who it is, that person is blindfolded instead. Where there is a fireplace, or where the furniture has sharp corners, it is rather a good thing for some one not playing to be on the lookout to protect the blind man. Sometimes there are two blind men, who add to the fun by occasionally catching each other. But this is rather dangerous. There is also a game called "Jinglers" where every one is blind except one player with a bell, whom it is their object to catch. But this is more dangerous still.
A good variety of "Blind Man's Buff" is the silent one. Directly the man is blindfolded, and before he begins to seek, all the players take up positions in corners, on chairs, or wherever they think most prudent, and there they must stop without making a sound. The task for the blind man is thus not catching the others, but, on finding them, deciding upon who they are. As chuckling or giggling is more likely to tell him than his sense of touch, it is tremendously important to make no noise if you can help it. Sometimes this game is played (without any standing on chairs) by a blind man armed with two spoons, with which he feels the features of those whom he runs against. In this case it is practically impossible to avoid [Pg 4] laughing. The sensation produced by the bowls of two spoons being passed over the face in the attempt to recognize its owner is overwhelming.

INTRODUCTION
For many people, their cars are extensions of themselves and their personalities. Whether it’s a classic Mustang convertible or a brand new Jaguar, the kind of car a person drives can tell a lot about that person in general. Never mind about the guy with the junked out pick-up truck!
There’s really nothing else quite like driving down the road on a beautiful spring day with all the windows rolled down. The fresh air invigorates you and there’s something that’s just right with the world when you can relax behind the wheel of the car you call your own.
But what if you don’t have a car? Walking down the road on a beautiful spring day just isn’t the same. We lament the person who doesn’t have transportation. You have to bum rides off of friends and family. You find yourself looking at your shoes in a whole new way. You know the local bus driver by name. Depending on where you live, having a car to drive is almost a necessity.
So you decide you really need to get a car, but you don’t have enough money to buy one outright. You’re going to need some kind of financing, but there’s a problem. You either have no credit, you have a little credit, but not enough to convince someone to loan you money, or you have bad credit. Think it’s a lost cause and you’re doomed to walk everywhere forever?
Well, don’t worry. There are things you can do to buy that car regardless of your credit history. There are many options that you have even if it doesn’t seem that way. People all over the country are plagued with credit problems, so you’re not alone! Many companies specialize in getting people back on the road in their very own cars. It’s not easy, but it is possible.

A Short Introduction To Copywriting For The Web
Although many people seem to think that writing effective copy for the web is easy, it really isn't. So if you want to ensure that your readers and your customers understand how your website works and what it can do for them, you need to produce good copywriting for it. If you don't then you'll have either very few or no sales at all.
In this course, we will look at the basics of producing good copywriting for the web. But before we start there are a number of things that you should bear in mind.
First, people do not read a website in the same way that they would read printed material. In fact, there are three characteristics which affect how a web user will react to the online content of a site.
It is important to remember that web users are active, not passive. So if they can not find a reason for staying on a site, then they will leave it. Sometimes a person will leave in as little as 15 seconds after they have actually gotten there. So if your text is too long, then they are less likely to read it. So if you want a web user to believe what you have to say, you absolutely must be able to back up the 'hype'.
In order for any web copy to be effective, it must take into account the characteristics mentioned above.
What is most important of all when looking at copywriting for the web, is not to underestimate the importance of the basics. If you just jump straight into it you may find yourself in trouble, and your site will end up not being as effective as it really could or should be.

INTRODUCTION
“Beautiful and graceful, varied and enchanting, small but approachable, butterflies lead you to the sunny side of life. And everyone deserves a little sunshine.”
~Jeffrey Glassberg
There are many, many people who love to watch butterflies as they flit through the air slowly and gracefully. If you never have, you certainly should! Butterflies provide beauty in an often ugly world. They give us insight into the world of nature and how wonderful and complex it is. But the butterfly is much more than that.
Humans need butterflies. Often unnoticed, they play an important role in maintaining the balance of nature and health of the living world. Butterflies pollinate wild plants and our crops, ensuring the production of seeds and fruits required for the continued survival of plants and animals, including humans.
Due to their fragility to ecological change, butterflies are elegant indicators of ecosystem health. Plus, Butterflies are a valuable source of food for songbirds.
There are over 17,000 species of butterflies worldwide – 7,000 of which are in North America alone. Butterflies weigh as little as 2 rose petals, but they can fly worldwide.
But their habitats are being threatened by deforestation and urban development. Because of this, there are many species that are beginning to become endangered and die away completely.
Legend and mythology also attribute certain mystical attributes to the common butterfly. An Irish blessing goes: "May the wings of the butterfly kiss the sun, and find your shoulder to light on to bring you luck, happiness and riches today, tomorrow and beyond."

INTRODUCTION
O the modern wide-awake, twentieth-century woman efficiency in household matters is quite as much a problem as efficiency in business is to the captains of industry. How to make pure food, better food and to economize on the cost of same is just now taxing the attention and ingenuity of domestic science teachers and food experts generally. The averagehousewife is intensely interested in the result of these findings, and must keep in touch with them to keep up with the times and run her home in an intelligent and economical as well as healthful routine.
The eternal feminine question is, "What shall we have for dinner to-day?" It is not always the easiest thing in the world to think of a seasonable menu, nor to determine just the right combination that will furnish a meal appetizing and well-balanced in food values. Furthermore, both the expense and the amount of work entailed in preparation must be considered.
This Cook Book is especially designed to meet just that pressing daily need of the housewife. It presents for her guidance a menu for every Sunday dinner in the year; it suggests dishes which are seasonable as well as practical; it tells in a simple, intelligent manner just how these dishes can be made in the most wholesome and economical form; and the recipes have all been especially made for this book and tested by that eminent expert, Mrs. Elizabeth O. Hiller.

Introduction
In the last twenty or so years, smoking has lost the popularity that it once held for many people in nearly every demographic in the world.
Before this time, it seemed as though everyone would light up just about anywhere. You would go into a hospital emergency room and see the doctors and nurses having a cigarette in the lobby with injured and sick patients who were smoking cigarettes as well.
Some facts worth noting:
1. Smoking is the #1 cause of death in America responsible over 400,000 deaths per year.
2. If you combine poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, and obesity, it will be about 400,000 deaths per year.

Public Domain Works - What Is It?
You may have heard of works that are in the public domain being used as new products by entrepreneurs today. This is a great way to start a business, or to improve the overall bottom line of an existing business.
Work that is in the public domain includes any work for which the copyright has expired, and not been renewed, any work that was published prior to 1923, works produced by the United States Government, and other specific Governments, Work that is donated to the public domain, or any other work that has no laws that restrict its use by the public.
The work itself may be in the form of a book, an article, a song, a film, a photograph, a painting, or even an invention. These works that are not covered by copyright laws, or are no longer covered by copyright laws, are free for the public to use as they see fit.
This does not mean that if a work is freely obtained it is in the public domain. In other words, if you saw it on a website, for free, that doesn’t mean that it is okay for you to use it. In fact, most things that are written down, in any form, are automatically copyrighted.
Public domain refers to work in which the copyright has run its course. According to the Copyright Office of the United States:

IN this small volume I have endeavored to point out the WAY TO GOD.
I have embodied in the little book a considerable part of several addresses which have been delivered in different cities, both of Great Britain and my own country. God has graciously owned them when spoken from the pulpit, and I trust will none the less add his blessing now they have been put into the printed page with additional matter.
I have called attention first to the Love of God, the source of all Gifts of Grace; have then endeavored to present truths to meet the special needs of representative classes, answering the question, “How man can be just with God,” hoping thereby to lead souls to Him who is “the Way, the Truth and the Life.”
The last chapter is specially addressed to Backsliders—a class, alas, far too numerous amongst us.
With the earnest prayer and hope that by the blessing of God on these pages the reader may be strengthened, established and settled in the faith of Christ,
I am, yours in His service,
