Sample Content Preview Zagat and Its Effect On Google+ Over the past few years I’ve spent helping boost my clients’ Google + Local listings, a number of things have changed. First, Google + Local was formerly called, “Google Places” which was pure and simply Google’s business listings. There was no social media interaction involved back then as there is currently with Google +. And the rating system was based on a 5 star scale…one familiar to most of the population. Enter the end of May, 2012. Google announced that Zagat and their 0-30 rating scale would be replacing the 5 star scale that had been in place since Google Places began. The days of easily recognizing the 5 star model, would now be faced with confusion in the 30 point scale. Zagat History Zagat was founded in 1979 by Tim and Nina Zagat. The Zagat’s were at a dinner party with friends when someone began complaining about the restaurant reviews in a popular newspaper. It was agreed upon that the reviews in the paper were erratic. Tim decided to survey the group of friends which resulted in amateur critic ratings of over 200 people which reviewed their top 100 restaurants for food, décor, service, and cost. The results were a big hit as copies were scooped up by people all over town. Zagat is available in over 100 countries and covers everything from dining and shopping, to music, movies, and everything in between. In September of 2011, Google paid $151 to purchase Zagat, and within 8 months, has moved in to become the new face of Google + reviews. The Google Places Rating Model In April, 2010, the Local Business Center became Google Places. Like most other review sites, Google Places had a 5 star system in place, whereas a “1 star rating” would be the lowest, and a “5 star rating” would be the highest. This scale was so popular because it was so easily recognized. Sites such as Yelp, CitySearch, SuperPages, etc. all use the same system and the stars themselves are easily distinguished. One could see 4 stars out of 5 that were shaded and understand what that meant (something along the lines of “very good”).

Comic books started as visual narratives of social issues. Hence, the hieroglyphs and the cave paintings came into existence. Richard Fenton Oucalt created The Yellow Kid in 1896. He was the first to use conversation balloons in comic books. This innovation revolutionized the way stories were told. This set the standard for a new way to tell stories. However, it wasn’t until a few decades of its life that comic books started to deviate from its traditional humoristic approach and delve into other genres.

The Themes

Comic books started as being humoristic. As it evolved, it delved into slightly deeper levels. It focused on the telling of the stories between children and their pets. From this part of history, the designations of family strips, kid strips, animal strips, boy-dog strips, boy-dog-boy strips, boy-family-dog strips, and anything else that could be derived from that genre. History Of Chess Playing

Chess is one of the most popular games nowadays. In fact, this pastime, game or addiction is a big hit not only in one country but all over the world! However, this game has quite a colorful history behind it that most players are not aware of. Whether you’re a chess fanatic or simply curious about the game, for sure you’d love to know how it all began. So, here goes!

Where It All Began

Its not surprising that Chess earliest evidence would also be the murkiest. Experts believe that the earliest evidence of chess could be traced back in India. It is said that the game Chaturanga which translates to 'quadripartite' in Sanskrit, is the main origin of Chess.

This game is actually a four-player rendition of Chess and makes use of dice. Information about it was gathered because the game was mentioned in the Puranas, that dates back to 3000 B.C.

According to studies, Chaturanga developed and transformed into a two player rendition that didn’t make use of dice, and disproved the Puranas dating, which left literary evidence that pointed to 620 A.D.

Getting Some Relevance

It was then during the Persian Empire period that much relevant origins were found to exist. Research shows traces of the game pointing back to the Sassanid Empire or Sasanian Dynasty, which ruled over Iran for more than four centuries. In their Book of Kings, 'Shahnama', one chapter described how India’s Raja sent the game through an emissary to King Nushirwan. The game was known to be Chatrang. Also found in the same chapter is the legend of chess invention followed by a civil war in which both of the Queens sons fought each other. Chatrang was also mentioned in 'Karnamak', or the Book of Deeds.
