Chapter 1: Introduction
I guess that it almost goes without saying no matter what your business is, if your job is selling, you want to make sales. To go further, you need to make sales in order to survive -- making sales is your lifeblood and the reason that you get out of bed in the morning.
I know this because, before I got involved in the online business world, I spent many years selling all sorts of goods and services in the real world to ‘bricks and mortar’ businesses. I was even fortunate enough to work in many different countries doing the same kind of work, so I have managed to learn quite a bit over the years. Throughout those years, one thing became crystal clear to me: as much as landing a new customer gives you a real buzz because it tells you that you are doing something right, being able to turn someone into a loyal customer is even more of a high because that tells you that you are doing a lot more than just ‘something’ right. In this case, the customer is obviously happy with most of the things that you are doing, and, therefore, you are beginning to build an all-important business relationship with them.
Loyal customers were by far the most valuable asset ever acquired by any of the businesses I worked for or owned. They were people who would continue to buy unless there was a definite reason why they should no longer do so.
Sometimes, they stopped buying for external reasons such as a new competitor entering the market with considerably cheaper prices or a better product range. In general terms, this situation is something that you can only fight against, but never completely prevent. However, losing loyal customers because of poor service or inattention to detail is an inexcusable and expensive mistake, and one that you should never make.
When I started managing sales teams of my own, this customer neglect was an error I saw too many junior salespeople make far too regularly. An appallingly high number of fresh salespeople seemed to spend all of their time chasing around trying to find new customers rather than focusing the appropriate amount of time and attention on their existing customer base.
There are many parallels here between the world of offline business and what many millions of people all over the world are doing daily online to generate an income.
Everyday, there are new e-books, training materials, instructional videos, and the like coming onto the market that will teach you how to unearth a constant stream of hungry new customers. While this is all very good, it tends to ignore the significance of existing customers and other resources that you currently own or control. A daily focus on finding new customers all day, everyday, ignores the fact that the true profitability in any business is generally not at the ‘front end’.

Welcome to the world of programming!
First of all, I would like to congratulate you on your decision to learn one of the easiest yet powerful programming languages available – PHP.
Web Developers use PHP to create interactive, dynamic websites while making it easy to update and maintain, not to mention, prompt your visitors to purchase, join a list or even tell a friend.
What is PHP And Why Should I Learn It?
PHP has been around for over 12 years, first coming onto the scene in 1995 by a freelance software developer, Rasmus Lerdorf. He initially used PHP by creating a script that retained a log of all of the visitors that landed on his webpage.
His script would feature information on how many visits his site received and other detailed information about his website stats.
As you can imagine, It didn’t take long before he started to receive emails and messages asking how he was able to do this, and because of the overwhelming interest in his scripts, he worked to develop PHP into what is now one of the most popular and widely used programming languages on the Internet.

Introduction
Selling Internet Marketing Services To Local Businesses
There has been a lot of talk as of late regarding taking online marketing skills to the offline world. I have been preaching the value of this for over a year and I thought that either no one agreed with me, or no one was listening to me. I still think no one was listening, but apparently, they agree with me and that’s enough for me. At least I feel somewhat vindicated now. To get back to the point, however, Internet Marketing has been a highly profitable industry, but seems to still be in ‘infancy’ compared to other industries of the world. Most Internet Marketers have concentrated their efforts in the business strictly to the online world, but now it’s becoming more and more evident that the offline world has a demand for Internet Marketing Services.
Case in point, I am often asked, “can you show me how to make money on the Internet?” by curious friends and relatives. The problem with the question, is that there are too many answers. However, I recently heard my daycare worker say that she was unhappy with her web site. She didn’t like the way it looked, but more to the point, it wasn’t bringing her any business. Since she was the person I trusted my child with all day long, I had a poke around her site to see what I could offer in terms of advice.
The first thing I noticed was that her number one selling point was not being ‘shouted from the rooftop’ so to speak. You see, her biggest selling point is that she gives away the first week for free just for trying the daycare out. I said “That should be in BIG BOLD BRIGHT RED LETTERS at the VERY TOP of the page. It should be the FIRST thing they see. The second thing missing from her site is a strong call-to-action message. Now, this being a daycare, most people looking for one, are going to make a decision on one fairly quickly, so there would be no need for an opt-in list, however, being a marketer and believer in ‘multiple streams of income,” I’m thinking along the lines of affiliate marketing kids products and such for her as additional revenue, so I suggest an autoresponder message to opt-in in exchange for a Free List of “Arts and Crafts Projects You Can Do With Your Children.”

Introduction
The aim of a website is generally to provide a window of one’s offers on a platform where a good deal of people can get access. A website is nothing more than a ‘storefront,' in a way, providing a catalog of products, services and information, depending on the area of expertise of the one behind the site. The general aim then is to get the maximum number of people to view this window, be interested in its content, and then make them loyal followers who will come back repeatedly to the site.
In the jargon of the cyber world, these ‘visits’ can be termed traffic. Traffic, in everyone’s minds, shows how many people are coming by a site, a good indicator of its popularity and content relevance.
Traffic is actually more technical, explained as the amount of data sent and received by visitors to a site, and not exactly as the number of visitors. Though both definitions can be considered the same, giving an idea of the popularity of a site, traffic is thus a very good indication of whether a site is thriving or failing.
Traffic is usually the first indicator of whether a site is attracting visits or not, and as such, is a basis for advertising ventures with sites. Given that advertising helps site owners financially, regular traffic ensures they will be considered for advertising proposals--or that they will earn more from current advertisers (by increasing views and clickthroughs).
Through traffic, owners can also see which pages are more popular and which are less visited, helping to know where their strengths and weaknesses lay. This data can further help them to determine trends on the site, and tailor their offers accordingly by remaining one step ahead of the game.
Thus, generating traffic and increasing it is a major concern of site owners. Whether a site caters to marketing products or to providing information on a specific topic, traffic will be the general indicator of its success and popularity, and consequently, of its survival - survival of the fittest on the Net referring to the site that receives best traffic.
Consequently, the aim of sites is to increase traffic. This differs slightly depending on the type of site. Marketing sites, provided by Internet marketers and Internet business owners, will want to increase their traffic to get more unique visitors and also to keep their returning visitors, ensuring that the products they offer are seen and considered by a wider number of potential clients. Content sites, for marketers and Internet business owners that offer information on a narrowlydefined topic and that generate revenue through advertising, will want to increase the number of page views (and, thus, click-throughs) of the site so as to increase the scope of penetration of their content.
