SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Google has had many algorithm changes over the years, called Penguin, Hummingbird, Panda and so on and we don’t really know all of the details except that thousands of sites receive a drop in rankings and some go up in the search engine results.

However, it seems that right now they favor companies promoting their brands and general topics, instead of plain keywords. You can’t load a page with your main keywords in the title, on the first line, last line, in Hi, H2 or H3 tags and so on, and get away with it. At one time, that would vault you to the top of Google, but not now. They favor authority websites with lots of good content and lots of social interaction (links to your Facebook fanpage etc).

So, you still can use keywords on pages, just don’t overdo the optimization.

This book will explain how to get your website to the top in your chose niche.
