Bones provide several important functions for our body and neglecting them can bring serious consequences. In this article we will look at the importance of our bones and some ways that we can protect them. We will also look at some of the myths surrounding osteoporosis and some of the ways it can be prevented.

What have the done for me lately?

Bones provide many essential functions for the human body. One of the most obvious ones is the framework. The skeleton provides us with our structure. Without our skeletal structure nearly every function would be impossible. Movement would be very difficult and our vital organs would be crushed under their own weight. Protecting this structure is important. Broken bones can lead to deformity as well as pain.

A second function of our bones is to protect our vital organs. Our heart is protected by a shield of bone and our lungs are protected by our rib cage. Our organ could likely function for a while without these in place but all it out take is minimal contact and these organs could be permanently damaged. The stronger these bones are the more protection those vital organs receive.

A third function of our bones is an anchor for our muscles and tendons. These are attached to our bones to keep them stationary. Without bones, muscles would be free to float about the body, causing injury to vital organs as well as themselves.

Taking care of our bones is essential. They provide structure and help keep vital organs protected. Our bodies could not function as they are without our bone structure. Taking care of them now will help ensure good bone health in the future.
