What Is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

The Main Facts

There are some medical conditions that are difficult to recognize and to diagnose. Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is one of them. It is now classified as a disorder, but only until recently it was though that CFS was not a medical condition. The more recent studies have revealed that chronic fatigue syndrome is serious and deserves the attention of medical professionals and the public in general. It is definitely important to learn more about CFS.

Chronic fatigue syndrome is defined as extreme fatigue that is continuous and that does not get better or disappear with rest. Usually, a patient is diagnosed with CFS after having experienced constant fatigue for more than six months. Given that the main symptom of the condition is relatively common other diseases should be excluded first. Your physician must confirm that you are not suffering from liver, kidney or thyroid deficiency and from AIDS, hepatitis C or from a psychosomatic illness. It should be noted that CFS is not a psychological disorder. The sufferer is not imagining that they are feeling tired.
